Certificates
A certificate is an organized program of study that requires students to earn between 12-18 credit hours and is designed for students who have not previously earned an undergraduate degree. A certificate may not be used in place of a minor for degrees which require a minor.
The following certificates are available for degree-seeking students with a Business Administration major:
Micro-Certificates
A micro-certificate is an organized program of study tied to specific professional competencies at the undergraduate or graduate levels, requiring 6-11 credit hours. All courses comprising micro-certificates are completed at Winthrop University. Students who are only enrolled in micro-certificates are classified as non-degree students and are, therefore, ineligible to receive financial aid.
The following micro-certificates are available to undergraduate students:
Geographic Information Systems
Technical Writing
Minors
Each program leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree requires the completion of a minor in addition to the major program. Students may fulfill the minor requirement with one or more minors of their own choosing. The minimum number of semester hours required for a minor is 15, at least six of which must be in courses numbered above 299. Minors are recorded on the permanent record. No course may be included in two minors or in a major and a minor (excluding General Education courses) unless the student is pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Social Work. Students may not select a major and minor which are the same.
Non-Bachelor of Arts degree students may complete minors either through the use of elective credits or through additional credits beyond those required for the degree program.
Students must achieve a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average in all courses taken at Winthrop, as well as in courses counted toward the minor and the major programs.
